Choosing bedroom colors can be a little bit daunting. If you are working with the furniture that you already have in your room then it can be a little bit difficult to just find pieces that will really freshen up your space. Paint is the least expensive way to do this correctly and it has one of the biggest impacts. There are all different kinds of ways that you can really create a new color palette.

One thing that you will want to consider is that of a very relaxing space. You might even want to base your room around a favorite spa. If calming and peaceful are words that you gravitate towards then this can really be very modern. Gray has become a very popular way to decorate. In this case, you may want to use something a little bit softer like a dove gray. Then bring in a lot of crisp white and aqua blue or lavender to really break it up. This is also very important if you don't have a lot of natural light in the room. You might have to go with a lighter color just because you don't want your beautiful gray paint to end up feeling like a prison.

If there doesn't seem to be anything special about your room then it's time to call in the paint reinforcements. This is true of rooms where the furniture is quite simple, the space is unremarkable, or it just lacks architectural elements. You can make almost any color work in this kind of the room. If you would like to stay within the soothing theme in still do something a little bit different then try periwinkle. You will have to work to make this color a little bit more masculine to achieve a design compromise but you can do this by adding in a chocolate brown or just a lot of crisp white. Another option would be to go with orange. This is such a bold color that it's really just appropriate for one wall, but it can really make a statement or work within a modern or bold design style.

Themes and Small Spaces

In small spaces you almost always are going to want to look at the paint chips very carefully. It might even be helpful to buy a small pot of paint and put it up on the wall. Colors always seem a lot more dramatic in small spaces so you may need to go up a few paint chips and just find a less dramatic version that will just really pop when you do finally put it on the wall.

You can also try bringing the outdoors in. This is a way to really make sure that your room flows beautifully with the outside space. This can make smaller rooms feel bigger. At the same time it just gives you the opportunity to create a more gender neutral room. This is a space that both you and your spouse can live with. It will still have a very cohesive and pulled together style. In this case you should focus on blue, green, or shades of brown and tan.

Another option would be to just go with a lack of color. This can seem a little bit boring at first and you might already think that this is what you have in your space. However you can make it look very intentional just by going with a classic white and black comforter or duvet cover. This is going to tie in a lot of the mismatched furniture pieces together. At the same time, it gives you a chance to really skip the color choosing process altogether. This can be very bold and contemporary looking.

One thing that you want to consider is the things that you can’t change your space. This includes your carpet and possibly your furniture. If you have a neutral colored carpet then you can pretty much paint anything on the walls. If you want a sense of cohesion then you can even pull out one of the colors from the carpet and use as your wall color.

A few years ago colored carpets were very fashionable. It seems that everyone was putting in a hunter green or cranberry red product in their home. Your versions of this might still be quite durable and practical even if they aren’t fashionable anymore. In this case, you probably want to tone down your wall color. Then you can find fabrics to use on your bedding that will also work to tie the two different colors together. This is a very inexpensive way to decorate and this way you won't notice the carpet that you previously hated. At least this is a quick fix until you can really replace it.

I'd recommend getting samples of the colors you are considering and taking them home so you can see how the colors work in your rooms lighting. The lighting in a store is always different than lighting in your home so you may find that the shades appear different. Sites like fabricmaven.com will ship you fabric samples so you can figure out what you want before making a big fabric purchase for things like curtains or upholstery furniture. Great hub thank you!

If I may add, you can pick the right bedroom color based from your favorite colors or research the meaning of these colors in psychology books. It would be great to pick a color that can make you relax.
