Black wallpaper can really solve a lot of problems. It’s a big decision to go with a black wall paint. You might be a little bit disappointed. When you go with a very dark color it can really point out all of the flaws in your existing wall or even your paint treatment. You also may find difficulty with getting a very welcoming look with such a dark color. You might even finish painting the entire room and then it seems quite overwhelming, oppressive and just plain depressing. You need to bring in a little bit of texture and shine so it can really liven things up. Plus, when you use a wallpaper it really allows you to get a lot of different accent colors in your space so that that your color isn't really that overwhelming. Plus, it can work with all different kinds of design styles.

Consider this kind of material if you want to decorate with a country theme. Oftentimes country looks can be very predictable or even juvenile. Instead you can really change things up just with your color palette, even if you're going with a basic fruit or floral theme. You could really make those colors pop against a black background. It really shows your dramatic air even if you are going for more of a popular theme that a lot of other people are using.

Another area where this color can really shine is in retro design. In retro design they often use very simple shapes. This can look a little bit childlike. This will really help balance out bright pinks, blues and oranges. Subtle uses of black as an accent such as on the branches of a tree really helps ground themes. Plus, then you can decorate with black furniture in the rest of your room to really kick up your design style without any one color over taking your entire space.

This is also a very fun way to experiment with a lot of different projects. If you don't want to put up wallpaper you can try wall stickers. The great thing about this is that you'll easily be able to find a lot of different silhouettes of frames. You can add pictures underneath the frames or even do handpainting. Another option would just be to leave the frames alone. In this case you'll need to just hang several on the walls. This can be a very dramatic element that really focuses on a lot of beautiful detailing with a little bit of a baroque or gothic look to it.

Another option is to make this work with a modern or contemporary design style. This is really where contrast is key. You will really need to be able to apply the wallpaper very carefully and professionally because it just focuses on geometric patterns. In this case everything is going to have to match up perfectly just so that it looks very professional. You could go with a series of grids or even stripes. It's very difficult to paint stripes on the walls especially if your walls have a little bit of texture to them. Just putting up paper can be a lot easier and give you a cleaner overall effect. Plus you will be able to go with a tone on tone a look that will really help break up the dark color with different finishes.

When you decorate with this kind of paper you want to make sure that it relates to something else in the room. This is so important just because dramatic colors can just kind of seem a little claustrophobic. Instead you can really focus in on an overall feeling or theme. You could accent with beautiful antique styled mirrored nightstands. Oftentimes these kind of pieces have a distressed finish on them that includes a lot of black.

You can also incorporate this color if you are doing more of a country look. For instance, if you're going with a toile wallpaper it would have a French country feeling to it. It can be both black and white. Then you can try using a crackle finish on your nightstands. You can either use the traditional black paint under white paint or mix things up with a bright white paint under black paint for a truly unique look. This allows you to really show off your investment in wallpaper and since you aren’t painting the walls you can paint the furniture instead.
