Add in a Room Rug for More Comfort and Style

Depending on the room rug you choose it can be a very welcoming accessory to your space even with budget constraints. You might not be able to choose your carpet or hardwood flooring. Instead, you might just have to deal with whatever the previous homeowners picked out. Instead, you can really just use a few simple interior design tips to get flooring that you are happy with. It can work within an overall theme but you might just want it to kind of disappear.

One thing that you'll really want to consider is the furniture that you're going to place on the rug. It's just a personal preference as to whether you want the furniture to just meet the perimeter of the rug or for the rug to basically carpet the entire space. This is really important because it will really help you decide whether you want a detailed rug or a plain rug. If you have a lot of heavy furniture pieces then it might be smart to go with just  a neutral piece. If you have a glass coffee table and end table then your room can probably handle more patterns or rugs with a medallion in the middle because the furniture won't be obstructing the design.

Price point should really dictate what color you go with. Of course she'll need to consider the flying underneath the end of furniture on top of it. You could even find a rug with a geometric pattern for more of a contemporary look. Often times these use a lot of neutral colors so you can tie your entire color scheme together. If you really like to change around your room a lot you might want to go with a basic color palette but use a pattern just so that you can get a very unique look to it.

This can be the area where you add a lot of color. After all, it is a lot more fun to go shopping than it is to just go and paint a room or refinish furniture. You can find a retro inspired pieces with tons of bright oranges, pinks and purples in them. This can be feminine but because it isn't flowers it doesn't read as too feminine. It can be very traditionally inspired but still use a modern and unique color palette that will feel more contemporary. It's a way to add a lot of character to basic tile floors or even wood floors that might have seen better days.

Another option would be to go with a neutral colored rug. This can really still work within a theme. For instance, if you're going with a more Zen like feeling you could get a grass rug although this can be a little bit scratchy to walk on. You could choose a faux fur rug for a teen's room or even a modern space. If you want more of a traditional vibe then go with an Oriental piece. This all just depends on how much money you have to spend, what quality you are looking for and what kind of style you really want in your room.

This can also be a very fun way to experiment with animal prints. Oftentimes these pieces can be a little bit cheesy. They can really overtake your room. Plus, if you're decorating a bathroom with this kind of theme then you might be tempted to get matching Kleenex holders, toothbrush holders, rugs, wallpaper borders, and shower curtains. This can be so predictable and isn’t really a theme room as much as it is a gift shop. In this case, you could really just change it up by changing the rug. This could be your one focal piece in the room.

Bring this in a living room. You might have all neutral tan furniture with black end tables. Then you can just find a zebra rug in tan black or even blue and black. You can find one in the actual shape of animals so it looks a lot more convincing but the fun color will still have a sense of whimsy. These kinds of pieces also work very well for teens rooms and is just a way to add texture into your space. Be aware that this is a very bold pattern so you'll just want to use one piece in the entire room just so that it doesn't really overtake and overpower the rest of your design style.
