Wall tiling is a staple in many bathrooms and even in a few kitchens. This material is expensive and can be quite a DIY project. However, you will want to make sure that you really get it right because it will be quite expensive to replace when the time comes.

If you are just going with a basic ceramic tile you may want to mix things up a little bit. These tiles can be a little bit boring, even though they are quite inexpensive. If you are just going with the basic glazed colorful tile you could really have a lot of fun. This can even be a unique way to add a backsplash to a kitchen. Of course it won't be as enduring as white tile but it will really show off your personality. You can mix and match all kinds of different colors together. Just make sure that you have a lot of neutral colors and then mix or just stick with a neutral color palette in different shades of taupe, brown and chocolate to really drive home a neutral theme that still has a very strong presence to it.

Natural stone tile really adds in a warm feel. It is very neutral but it still gives you the opportunity to bring in very soft colors that still have texture. These are the painted pieces that really gets noticed. Of course, you can always get a version of this in ceramic tile. In this case, you might just want to carry the actual stone tile around with you in the hardware store and match against the ceramic. The glossy finish is really what is going to make or break this as well as the different textures. It's quite easy to tell ceramic from stone if you go with a cheap version. If you spend a little bit more money you can really get a big presence for not that big of a difference in price.

These types of designs aren't just for the bathroom. You can use them in all different rooms of your home. For instance, you might want to give a more contemporary look to an entryway or a fireplace. You can really create a very dramatic impact by going with floor to ceiling glass mosaic tiles. These are very trendy right now, but they will become dated at some point. Maybe install these just in one area like your entire fireplace. This is perfect because in a lot of modern homes you won't even have a mantle. The fireplace is quite unadorned. This will really be the opportunity to add in color, texture and interest into your space. Just be sure that you choose a tile that has enough of a variety of colors that you'll be able to match it with any wall colors that you might want to go to in the future.

When choosing this kind of tile for bathrooms you'll really need to take several things into consideration. For instance bathrooms are quite small. They might only have one window. This means that you really don't want to choose anything that will overwhelm the space. Of course budget is also a concern. A few years ago travertine tile was very popular. This can be a very elegant while tile. It will be very subtle and you can find it in much bigger tiles so that you really won't have a lot of large grout lines in your space.

Another area where you can use one of these techniques just with different materials is in the bedroom. In modern homes usually the beds are of a platform variety. This usually means that they are quite low profile and they might not even get noticed. The worst-case scenario is that it will feel like a dorm room with no real wow factor. In this case, you could really have a lot of fun by using fabric squares. This could be an opportunity to tile an entire wall. You can even mix and match a few of the squares to get all different kinds of colors in the space or just match it with the exact same color as your wall color.

Another option that could even work in a kid's room would be to just paint squares on the wall. This can mimic tiles. Of course you will need to be very careful to make sure that you get a very clean finish. This will really add a lot of life to a space and allows you to basically make your own pattern with different colors that you'd like to use. You should probably just focus on one wall just because of the strong geometric lines. Then keep the rest of your furnishings quite simple so that your paint treatment really steals the show.
